Belted Kingfisher in against autumn leaves

I was kayaking on Black Lake on an unusually warm October afternoon when I heard the call of the belted kingfisher. I allowed the wind to blow me closer where I was able to take a few photos and I didn't drop my camera in the water! :)

Hi Jennifer. This picture piqued my interest on the Encounters page, as I don't think I have ever seen this bird species before. What a unique feather pattern on the crown of the bird's head?! It kind of reminds me of a mohawk haircut. Glad that you were able to successfully capture this moment without dropping your camera in the water!
